- A mink while reading at Mooneys
- Three baby muskrats in a man-made lake in a trailer park
- Many large, ancient snapping turtles
- Even more wild turkeys
- A juvenile, blue-eyed crow (it spent the night in my house)
- A baby crayfish, which I held in my hands
- Many painted turtles, which I snatched from aboard a kayak with my bare hands (nine in a day is my current record)
